About US
Big Penguin Productions is the product of when filmmakers come together due to there simple and never ending love for film. Coming from different backgrounds with different appreciations for different genres but with a total and complete appreciation for every aspect of filmmaking, Big Penguin Productions was founded by the promise to create shorts and feature length films that deliver stories and themes respectful to the craft and demolish economical, technological, conceptual and societal boundaries of the process.
In this day and age of modern art that seems to exclude the masses from intellectual debate and societal critique, the filmmakers at Big Penguin Productions believe that film is the last accessible art form. We wish to communicate to the masses themes, ideas, and arguments in order to open up public conversation. Our content is derived from an irrepressible need to push our audiences' comfort zones and expectations. We make films due to an uncontrollable inner need to create. We are starving artists, starving only due to our never sated hunger for films and art.
Economic Commitment:
Big Penguin Productions is committed to the "Zero Budget Production" model which means that the scale of the production, but not the out come, is fiscally restricted. Zero Budget Productions are our films that cost very little and took no time to produce, but in the end gave the feel of a much larger production. For example: The Job: Blown Away is our action art film. Feeling like a high octane action thriller and consisting of 36 effects shots, this piece only took 3 days to shoot and had the budget of $25. Big Penguin Production is venturing into it's largest film yet, White Zombie, which will look and feel like a $30 million piece of cinema, but will only have a $18,000 budget. That is only 1.5% of the budget we are emulating. A true Zero Budget Production.
Conceptual Commitment:
Big Penguin Productions is dedicated to making films that cause conversation and controversy. Feeling many current art movements have become elitist, Big Penguin Productions’ objective with short and feature length movies is to create dynamic pieces of art that the public can interact with. With a variety of content that is used to critique a spectrum of social, political, economical issues, Big Penguin Productions believes nothing is off limits for public debate. Many of Big Penguin Productions works has caused heated conversation in an array of circles. However, while with every project our goal is to make people think, we also strive to entertain. And so long as we’ve fulfilled at least one aim, Big Penguin Productions views the piece is a success.
